Your edie Membership
Edition 03 | Jun ’24 – Aug ‘24
Welcome to your new and exclusive edie Member newsletter, which edie’s Intelligence team will be sharing quarterly to help you stay ahead of the climate curve and make the most of your membership benefits.
Make sure you have a read of our latest Sustainable Business Tracker report which has just been released, and don’t forget to sign up for the upcoming virtual and face-to-face member briefings and networking opportunities – the next being our October Breakfast Briefing on 3rd October in London. Both of these offer unique and interactive insight into the increased reporting requirements facing sustainability teams at the moment.
Update from the editor
Since our last quarterly newsletter, the UK has welcomed a new Government, summer – if you’ve had a ‘Brat’ one, well done you – seems to have passed us by, and sustainability teams have welcomed even more guidance and frameworks to add to the reporting and disclosure pile.
Even as the weather worsens there are some bright sparks of green action. The Labour Government delivered a record £1.5bn in its latest CfD auction for energy projects, which green groups have called “a big win and a clear comeback”. All eyes turn to the Autumn Budget to see whether policy can send a clear signal to businesses on the direction of travel toward net-zero.
We’ve seen even more updates from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) which embarked on a not-so-little fact-finding session on the viability of carbon offsets. With the SBTi seeking to update its Net-Zero Standard next year, the 105-page evidence support has some stark findings on carbon credits. Don’t threat, we’ve summarised those just for Members here.
While these are major developments, don’t be disheartened if you’re only just catching up. Our latest Sustainable Business Tracker surveyed 180 sustainability professionals on approaches to reporting and disclosure. As outlined in that interactive report, sustainability teams don’t have much time for anything else other than reporting right now.
That’s why we’re offering some exclusive insight on the above. I hope to see you all at our next Virtual Briefing on 10 September, where we’ll hear from the SBTi on the latest developments. It would also be great to see you in person at our morning Members briefing on October, where we hear from a selection of businesses and how they are getting to grips with reporting and disclosure.
If you haven’t already, please look out for a direct email from myself about an onboarding call and survey.
Thanks for being a loyal edie Member; together I believe we can begin to really shift the dial on climate action and net-zero
